Nilar EV Battery

Update 6/30/10: We have completed testing of the Nilar 72V 20AH battery pack on a Phoenix 7240 system. While we know of customers who are happy with their Nilar battery, it did not pass our tests. Voltage on a fully charged pack sagged to 55V under acceleration. Therefore, neither we nor Nilar/Colorado Advanced Battery can recommend the pack for Phoenix.
RoadRunner testing is underway, and we expect to complete it by end of July. Results will be posted here.

A few customers have told us their experience with Lithium has been great, but many, many more have told us otherwise. These inconsistent reports are congruent with our experience with Chinese-made Lithium batteries. If you happen to get a good one, you're a happy camper, but the majority get a not-so-good one that has one problem after another, and never delivers to expectations.

Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries' power density (amount of energy they can store) surpasses SLA for weight and size, but we wrote them off long ago because testing showed that while they were able to deliver the current, they literally ruined themselves in the process. The result was a battery that worked great for a couple of months, but then needed to be replaced.

A NiMH manufacturer approached us about our offer to produce an advanced battery that can power our systems. We hear from manufacturers nearly every day, but this one is different -- it is a US company. We would never send a customer to a supplier outside the US, as the odds of getting burned are extremely high, but we will make a referral to a US company if we believe they have something of interest to our customers. The manufacturer is Nilar, and they claim to make batteries that will power our Sparrow and RoadRunner.

It takes ElectricRider about 3 months to complete testing of a battery, another 3-4 months for manufacturing and to get to our warehouse. Our customers are asking for advanced batteries NOW. ElectricRider has agreed to refer customers to Colorado Advanced Battery to obtain Nilar batteries.
