Contents of a Complete Phoenix 7240 Kit

Complete systems from ElectricRider include everything you need to convert your pedal bike at home or at a bike shop, and we do a lot of the work for you. The wheel is laced to the motor and the batteries are wired. Every component we ship is tested just prior to shipment. Our goal is zero defects in our customers' hands.

Power System Only kits from ElectricRider include almost everything you need to convert your pedal bike at home or at a bike shop except batteries and charger. The wheel is laced to the motor. Every component we ship is bench tested just prior to shipment. If you do not have a battery and charger, order the complete kit rather than this Power System Only kit. Controllers for the Power System Only kit are supplied with no connector (just wires for + and -) to the batteries.

Here are pictures of individual PARTS for your perusal. You will also find hub system parts under parts categories.

Motor We offer several versions of Phoenix motors for various applications. Each motor's windings are designed for either torque (Brute), speed (Racer), or a combination of both (Cruiser).  We offer all Phoenix motors in both front and rear. For 72v systems, we recommend either the Cruiser or Brute motors. The Racer is the least efficient at 72v. Although the Racer's top speed is still higher than the Cruiser and Brute, it takes much longer to reach those speeds and requires the controller to work very hard to do so. Phoenix motors are available with disc brakes.
Spokes We use 12 gauge spokes on 20" and larger rims. Normal bike spokes are 14 gauge. Heavier spokes mean less spoke maintenance and a stronger wheel.
Rim All Phoenix motors are available with  20", 24", 26", and 700C rims. All of these rims are double-walled.
Lacing We lace the motor to the rim on our bench. We tighten the spokes to the correct tension, and make sure the wheel is true before shipping. Spoke maintenance is very important for 72v systems due to the added weight of the system. Keep your spokes tight and check them frequently.
Controller The 7240 system comes with a 72volt 40amp controller (2880 watts). The 7240 controller includes connections for cruise control and brake inhibits.
Throttle Since we do not currently offer lighted 72v throttles, you have the choice of any non-lighted throttle we offer - Thumb, Half-Twist, or Full Twist. Although all our Crystalyte throttles will function with all kits, the LEDs will most likely burn out if using a lighted throttle with your 72v system.
Rack / Bag / Battery Brackets We ship a Rack/Basket combo unit and Sunlight Bag with our 72v Phoenix kits. The bag has a top trunk portion, and also 2 concealed panniers that fold out for more storage space. The batteries take up  the pannier portion and the trunk portion with 72v kits. For information about our battery bracket upgrade option, click here. We especially recommend battery brackets for the 72v Phoenix for better balance and weight distribution. TIP: If you can fabricate a battery holder to hold 2 batteries in the triangular part of your frame, you will notice a huge difference in the stability and balance of the bike.
Batteries Phoenix kits come with 12V 12AH batteries, DD12-12T2. The 72v kit has 6 batteries. If your kit is purchased from ElectricRider, your batteries "may" come pre-wired unless otherwise requested. We may not be able to wire your 72v batteries if they are not all able to ship in the same box. If this is the case for your order, our assembly guide has easy step-by-step wiring instructions for your batteries. You have the option to upgrade to any batteries we carry for only the difference in price. A higher amp hour battery pack increases range, but adds weight.
Fuse
Wire set
Keyswitch
Charger Port
Connector to controller
The wire set for a Phoenix system includes a 50amp fuse and fuse holder, charger port, key switch, jumper wires, and a 50amp Anderson power connector for the main power to the controller. This wire set is pre-made for easy installation and use. If you purchase your system from ElectricRider, we pre-wire your batteries using this wire set. This wire set also makes battery replacement a simple task.
Charger Standard charger is two 36v 3a chargers. We use two 36v chargers to charge a 72v battery pack. This reduces recharge time and gives you a backup charger. You can upgrade your charger to a faster Joule or Soneil. For charge time, divide the AH (amp hour) rating of the battery by the amp rating of the charger. This will give you the approx. charge time in hours. For example, it would take 4 hours to charge a 12AH battery pack with a 3 amp charger.
Cruise Control / Brake inhibits
(Included)
Cruise control and brake inhibits are included as part of the Phoenix kits. The cruise control functions almost like the one in your car, except that it is not regulating speed, it is regulating current (amps). The brake inhibits are a safety feature that cut the power to the motor when a brake lever is pulled. We recommend you always use brake inhibits when using cruise control for safety reasons.
Spoke Wrench We include a spoke wrench with all of our kits. The spoke wrench is a metal ring about 1" diameter that has notches cut out. Keep an eye out for this in your package as it is not obvious to most. The spoke wrench can usually be found packaged with the throttle unit.
Slime Tube (most sizes) We supply a slimetube for all Phoenix wheel sizes except 700C. Slimetubes are self-healing tubes that contain a slime-like substance. This substance will fill any small puncture wound that may be created by thorns or other small objects. It will often fill the hole and dry before losing all the air, which can make the difference of whether you are riding or walking home.

Things you may want to add:
Lights, speedometer, mirrors
Lights and mirrors improve the safety of your ride. A speedometer may turn out to be your best gauge of battery life, particularly if you take the same route frequently. Please browse the selection on our Accessories page.

Since we assemble and package kits at our shop, we can make any substitution you desire. For instance, if you want 12AH batteries with a RoadRunner, we charge only the difference between the 10AH standard and the 12AH.
